Computing projects· Network Traffic Engineering Advisor: Sukumar Nandi.
My task involved the survey of the various means used for Network Traffic Estimation
and calculation of the Network Matrix. The work also involved the study of the various
algorithms used in routing of traffic and to suggest a new heuristic after comparing and
simulating the throughput of various methods.
Manish M. Nair
· Heuristic for Sub Graph Isomorphism Advisor: R. K. Ghosh
I co-designed and tested a heuristic which when given a model graph matches the isomorphic
existence of this graph within any input graph. This heuristic was found to given a
better performance on many classes of graphs when compared with Ullman’s Algorithm.
Dr. Michela Lecca, Technologies of Vision - Istituto Trentino di Cultura is looking at the
feasibility of using this heuristic in his work.
· Control of Machines over Internet Advisor: U. S. Dixit
I designed a system for automatic control of machines (specifically stepper motors) using a
PC running Linux. The system was implemented using PERL and C, with an HTML/CGI
accessible by a browser from remote locations with the front-end communicating with the
back-end using TCP/IP. The control of the machine was achieved using Parallel Port programming.
· Interpreter for BASIC Language Advisor: R. K. Ghosh.
The primary idea was to design and interpreter for the BASIC Language in JAVA. But I
also wrote a whole development environment for the BASIC language complete with multi
window editor, ftp client, chat client and debugger apart from the interpreter. Later partial
support was added for other major programming languages such as C, C++ and JAVA. The
whole design used only JAVA API and Swing.
· Worked on an educational NACH-OS which runs as a process in Linux. The work involveWork d
Experience implementing various features on this such as Process Synchronization Primitives, Scheduling,
Thread Safe Demand Paging and use of Secondary Storage. Guide: Gautam Barua
· The designed and implemented a 4-bit CPU which had 16 instructions along with a RAM to
store the program. The design included a hardware stack for function-calls. The complete
implementation was done using only standard IC chips (no micro-processors). Guide: J. K.
